15 questions to ask when you visit a school
Updated 4 Nov 2026
A 30-minute campus visit tells you more than any advertisement. Go on a working day if you can, and take this list.
Safety and care
- Who is at the gate, and how do you check who picks up my child?
- Are there CCTV cameras, and who watches them?
- Is there a nurse or first-aid room? What happens if my child falls ill?
- Are there separate, clean toilets for girls and boys on every floor?
Teaching
- How many students are in each section of my child's class?
- Are the class teachers trained (B.Ed./D.El.Ed.) and how long have they been here?
- How do you tell parents about progress? How often are parent-teacher meetings held?
Fees and money
- What is the full fee for the year: admission, monthly, annual, exam, transport, books, uniform?
- Which fees are refundable if we leave?
- Is there a sibling or merit concession?
Transport
- Does your bus or van come to our area? What does it cost?
- Is there a female attendant on the bus?
Results and affiliation
- What is your board affiliation number? (Check it on CBSE SARAS for CBSE schools.)
- What were your Class 10 and 12 results for the last three years?
- Can I see your mandatory public disclosure?
Write the answers down. Comparing two or three schools side by side makes the choice much easier.
