Documents needed for school admission in Bihar: a checklist
Updated 4 Nov 2026
Every school sets its own list, so always ask the school first. These are the documents most private schools in Bihar ask for.
Usually asked for every class
- Birth certificate issued by the municipal body or gram panchayat. It is the main proof of the child's date of birth.
- Passport-size photos of the child (often 4 or more), and sometimes a family photo.
- Aadhaar card of the child, and often of a parent.
- Address proof of the parents (Aadhaar, electricity bill, rent agreement).
For Class 2 and above
- Transfer certificate (TC) from the previous school.
- Report card / progress report of the last class passed.
Only if it applies
- Caste certificate (SC, ST, EBC, OBC) if you are applying under a reserved category or for a scholarship.
- EWS / income certificate if you are applying for a free seat under the RTE Act.
- Medical or blood group report, which some schools ask for.
Tips
- Carry originals and two photocopies of each document.
- If the birth certificate is not ready, ask the school what it accepts in the meantime. Most will take an application receipt for a short time, but not all.
- Ask for a receipt for every fee you pay at admission.
