How to check if a school is really CBSE-affiliated
Updated 4 Nov 2026 · हिंदी में पढ़ें
Many schools in Bihar write "CBSE pattern" or "English medium, CBSE syllabus" on their banners. That is not the same as being affiliated to CBSE. Only an affiliated school can register its students for the CBSE Class 10 and Class 12 board exams under its own name.
Check it yourself on CBSE SARAS
- Open saras.cbse.gov.in (the official CBSE affiliation system).
- Choose Affiliated Schools and search by affiliation number, or by state and district.
- Open the school's record. Check that the name and address match the school you visited.
- Look at the affiliation status and the "affiliated up to" date. An expired or provisional affiliation is worth asking the school about.
Every CBSE school listed on SchoolBihar shows its affiliation number with a direct link to its SARAS record, so you can do this in one tap.
What the details mean
- Affiliation number: a unique number CBSE gives each affiliated school. The school's UDISE+ code is a different number, given by the Ministry of Education to every school in India.
- Secondary / Senior Secondary: Secondary means affiliated up to Class 10; Senior Secondary means up to Class 12.
- School code: used by CBSE for exams; it is not the same as the affiliation number.
Questions to ask the school
- "What is your CBSE affiliation number?" A genuine school answers at once.
- "Is Class 11–12 affiliated too, and in which streams?"
- "Can I see your mandatory public disclosure?" CBSE requires affiliated schools to publish it on their website, including results, fees and infrastructure.
